I didnt think that this application would be up to the same standard set by the book (which is THE definitive cocktail bible), but I couldnt have been more wrong! Its every bit as informative as the book, and the fact that its interactive - it lists the cocktails that you can make from the drinks in your cabinet - makes it even easier to use. And at the price of half a pint of beer, its astonishingly under-priced for such a brilliant application.

Such a good app, great UI, easy to use and some really usefull features, tho I really wish theyd bring out the full diffords guide soon!!!

Wow. I love the diffordsguide books but this application is going to leave them gathering dust. Fantastic! Easily the best and handiest bar tending app out there!

Im a bit of a cocktail nerd - I mix drinks while wearing a leopard print fez for an internet comedy show called Tiki Bar TV. On my shelf of cocktail books youll find a large shelf dedicated to Difford; I loved his "Sauceguides", I subscribed to his magazine, and even have an autographed copy of Cocktails Vol. 5 (thank YOU very much). Simons books blend masterful mixology with absolutely gorgeous graphic design. When friends of mine decide to delve into the world of mixology, I always, without fail, steer them toward something from the Simon Difford collection. This app has the same classy design and fantastic cocktails as Simons books. The writing is clean and witty. The drinks? Delicious. The ability to randomly "shake" a cocktail based on what you have in your bar RIGHT NOW is fantastic. And the little checklist so you can click off the ingredients as you pop them in your Boston shaker? Cmon. Pure genius. Hell, after enjoying a few cocktails, I sometimes myself have have forgotten to add that 1/2 ounce of simple syrup when needed or, on occasion, mistakenly added a double dose of Curacao. Dreadfully embarrassing. Now with my handy iPhone checklist? Never again! 2.99 for this app is an absolute bargain! Difford is the real deal. This is an attractive and easy to use bartending application. It has a solid collection of recipes that tends toward classic cocktails, variations on classics and tested modern recipes. I was surprised not to see any recipes containing calvados or applejack.

Pros: The ability to set which liquors I currently have really sets this app apart from all the other cocktail apps. This app was clearly designed for the average home consumer and not a bartender with a fully stocked bar at their disposal. The shake for random drinks feature is fun. All the recipes and pictures included are high quality. Definitely worth $3. Cons: The app has some serious crash bugs. If I star a recipe the app will always crash when loading. I had to remove the app and re-install to get it to run again. I cant set which "essentials" I currently have (limes, syrups, etc.) just like I can with the liquors.

Now working with new iPhone os. I really like this app...the preloaded ratings are pretty accurate. Loads of interesting drinks based on a small number of base liquor. I love the "thumbtack" feature, which prevents iPhone from dimming or sleeping while you are preparing a drink.

Some bad moments

Crashes on iOs 5.0 after 1 minute of use. Too expensive for non-working app

I downloaded this app after reading a great review about it online… The first drink I searched for (ice pick) returned zero results… Horrible navigation, horrible UX (user experience)... there are plenty of free apps that put this app to shame... there were no reviews, so I took one for the team…

for people like me a very useful and well done app. a bit buggy. i had to re-install several times. first time i added a drink to favorites, the drinks contents disappeared and when i attempted to open the drink, the app crashed. another time after adding a drink to favorites, the app refused to open. its also one of the slower apps to open. they have their own ratings for drinks and if you attempt to rate the drink the same number of points as their rating, it wont take. either you have to rate above or below their rating to have your rating appear (colored green as opposed to theirs in white). they also might consider adding to the cabinet of alcohol you have, their mixing elements to create my bar list. all and all a great app that needs some work.

I can not get this application to run under the new IPhone 3.0 software, click on the icon comes up to the splash screen, then dies. I have rebooted the phone, reloaded the app, all to no avail. Help with a version that works as good under 3.0 as it did under 2.0!

Doesnt currently seem to work on the iPhone 3GS - pops up the splash screen and then quits. Bummer. (Gave 1 star because I had to choose something...)

Reloaded 2x and still will not work. Everytime that I click app front page, nothing happens and then I am returned to the main iPhone page. Poor performance for a $2.99 app imo.
